READMISSION RATES
CMS tracks all-cause, 30-day, unplanned hospital readmissions as an important indicator of overall quality and cost-effective care. The average cost of readmission for total hip replacement (THR) is $58,000. Based on the national surgical site infection (SSI) averages vs. HOI SSI averages (15 patients out of 1,000 nationally vs. 0.12 patients out of 1,000 at HOI), a savings of $812,000 was realized at HOI for THR procedures.
